In this academic project for the Comics class, the challenge was to adapt one of Aesop's fables into a comic book format. The proposal involved transforming the classic narrative into an engaging visual language, maintaining the essence of the story's moral while exploring creativity in the design of the characters and settings.
The purpose of this project was to adapt Aesop's fable “The Dog and the Mask” into a comic book format, providing a reflection on the way people present themselves on social networks. The adaptation explores the theme of how people often hide their true essence behind an online “mask”, creating a discrepancy between reality and the image they display to the virtual world.
“Looking for a bone to gnaw, a dog found a mask: it was very beautiful,
and its colors were as beautiful as they were lively; the dog sniffed it,
and recognizing what it was, turned away with disdain.
- The head is certainly beautiful,” he said, ”but it has no brains.”
Moral: Just like the mask, many people have beauty, but seem empty inside,
they have no substance.
The moral of this adaptation highlights how, in trying to project an idealized image on social media, we often end up losing our true essence, distancing ourselves from who we really are.
